Flash Note — Privacy Policy

Overview

Flash Note is a browser extension that provides a lightweight side-panel for taking notes, saving highlighted text from web pages, and pinning floating comments directly onto page elements.

Your privacy is our absolute priority. Flash Note operates as a completely serverless extension. All your data stays entirely on your local machine, and no personal information is ever collected, monitored, or transmitted to any third-party servers.

Data We Process & Store

All data processed by Flash Note is stored locally in your browser's sandboxed storage and never leaves your device:

• Notes & Highlights — When you type a manual note or capture highlighted text, the content is saved locally on your device.
• Floating Comments & Anchors — When you attach a floating note (comment) to a specific element on a webpage, we store the note content, the webpage URL, and non-personal element selectors (like class names or element IDs) locally so we can reposition the comment when you revisit that page.
• Reminders — When you set a reminder, the alarm timestamp is stored locally to trigger browser notifications.

In short: We only save what you explicitly write, and it is stored entirely offline.

How Data is Stored

By default, all your saved data is stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. It is sandboxed within your browser profile. We do not use any external databases, servers, or cloud storage.

What We Do NOT Do

• We never collect, store, or transmit your personal data, passwords, or search queries.
• We never sell, rent, or monetize your notes or browsing habits.
• We never track your browsing history or record any background network traffic.

Permissions & Why We Request Them

Flash Note requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function. None of these permissions are used for tracking or data collection:

• storage & unlimitedStorage — Needed to save and persist your notes, settings, and floating comments offline on your device without hitting storage limits.
• sidePanel — Needed to display the notes management panel inside the browser's side panel.
• contextMenus — Needed to add a "Add Flash Note here" option to the right-click menu, allowing quick pinning of comments.
• alarms & notifications — Needed to schedule and trigger local reminders and push alert notifications.

User Control & Data Retention

You have absolute control over your data:

• You can modify or delete individual notes or floating comments at any time directly through the side panel UI.
• To erase all data stored by the extension instantly, you can simply uninstall Flash Note from your browser. This will automatically delete all sandboxed browser storage associated with the extension.

Security

Because all your data is stored locally, its security depends entirely on your own device and browser settings. We recommend securing your operating system with regular updates, screen locks, and using standard browser protections.
